U.S. Condemns Kidnapping, Killing Of Rev. Father Okechukwu

The U.S. Mission In Nigeria has condemned the kidnapping and killing of Catholic Reverend Father, Sylvester Okechukwu.

The Catholic priest who was kidnapped from his residence at St Mary Catholic Church Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on the evening of 4th March 2025, was killed by his abductors on the 5th of March.

In a statement released by the Catholic Church, Father Okechukwu, 45, was a dedicated servant of God, who worked selflessly in the vineyard of the Lord, spreading the message of peace, love and hope. He was always available and accessible to his parishioners.

“His untimely death has left an indelible void within our diocesan family, and we share in the pain of his passing with his family, friends and all those who knew and loved him,” parts of the statement said.

Reacting, U.S. Mission in statement through its verified X account called on the Nigerian authorities to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

The commission also extended their condolences to the bereaved family and the Catholic Church.

“The U.S. Mission is distressed by the brutal and senseless killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu in Kaduna State, Nigeria. We strongly condemn this horrific act of violence.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, congregation, and community of Father Okechukwu, who have suffered an immeasurable loss. Our thoughts are with them during this time of profound grief. We call on the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.
