Tinubu busted for claiming to have Dinner with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin

President Bola Tinubu has been busted for sharing an image he took with a Catholic cardinal in Rome, Italy following his visit to Vatican over the inauguration of the solemn Mass for Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration.

Hours after arriving in Rome ahead of the solemn Mass for Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration, President  Tinubu said he was hosted to dinner by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State.

In a post on his official X handle, Tinubu said their dialogue was marked by a spirit of fraternity and a shared vision for peace, mutual respect, and global solidarity.

He said Nigeria deeply values the Vatican’s longstanding goodwill and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to interfaith dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation in what he describes as an increasingly polarised world.

Tinubu wrote, “Nigeria remains a nation open to friendship, grounded in faith, and committed to building bridges of understanding across the world.”

However, the cardinal which, President Tinubu had a dinner with is Cardinal Farrell, one of the individuals serving in the honorary capacity of Papal Chamberlain.

It’s not clear if it’s an error on the President’s side or it was a deliberate attempt to make the people believe that Mr. Tinubu was received and hosted to a dinner by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State.

An ardent supporter of Peter Obi, Serah Ibrahim, described the information posted on the President’s official X account as fake and deliberate.

“AS A CATHOLIC I AM REALLY UPSET THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DENIGRATE MY RELIGION

“First of all, this is NOT His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

“Secondly THIS IS NOT CARDINAL PIETRO PAROLIN

“Stop making a mockery of my religion just because you want snaps and pics.

“You are there on official duties as every Nation is.

“All countries especially those with huge catholic faithfuls are invited to the inauguration, you’re there to represent the country’s Catholics and this is what you do with it, denigrate our religion with lies and FAKE NEWS.

“The Vatican is a sacred place. Are you so out of touch with your surroundings that you don’t even know who you ate with?

Tinubu will join other world leaders today at the solemn Mass for Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration, in Vatican, Rome, Italy.
